Recent Brookes Global MBA graduate Frano Lubura is one of only ten students shortlisted to pitch his business idea at the FUEL Awards on 27th March. This selection is a real credit to Frano and reflects the entreprising nature of the MBA programme and many of the students. Frano was, for example, able to develop his ideas by doing a Business Start-Up project, one of four different types of final projects we offer.

FUEL is an amazing opportunity for future entrepreneurs and anyone passionate about driving social and environmental change. It’s promoting the use of a mix of funding, knowledge and mentoring to achieve entrepreneurial goals.

FUEL awards is organised by the Brookes Enterprise Support team and supported by Santander Universities UK.

Please see their website for more information: https://www.brookes.ac.uk/enterprise/funding-and-opportunities/fuel-awards/ or book your place at the Live Finals here: https://www.brookes.ac.uk/enterprise/

Some really interesting articles in the latest AMBA magazine! The headline article especially grabbed my attention, as it seems particularly relevant to our Global MBA. While the article conflates various concepts of platformisation, sharing and online interactions, it does, I believe, show that the Brookes MBA is still ahead of the curve in the space of blended executive education.

Our core values of 'Connect, Collaborate and Create' reflect that our aims are exactely what is needed in executive education: learning through sharing of expertise and experiences, collaborating with peers and tutors to create solutions and insights, connected - to each other and cutting edge knowledge - through a learning environment which is largely (but not exclusively!) online. I think it's not helpful to call that Uberisation, though. This is not about creating new business models that monetise individual resources through sharing platforms. That sort of thing has been long talked about in the context of Wikinomics, offering opportunities to learners to source (pick & mix) bits of relevant content from anywhere/anyone that is the world-expert in that area. Rather, we offer an integrated enabling platform for collaborative learning, in which contributions and take-aways from peers are equally essential and are supported by resources, tutors and processes provided by the MBA, in the context of the Business School and the University. As MBA students and alumni, you are not a passive absorbers of knowledge, but a active contributors to a vibrant learning community.

It would great to see your thoughts on the AMBA article in the comments.

If you'd like to read the full magazine, you can do so here.

You may find it easier to download it as a PDF (in its entirity or just the articles you are interested in). I've already downloaded the Uberisation article

2018 Summer School a resounding success!

The sixth Oxford Brookes MBA Summer School, held on Saturday 29 September, was a resounding success.

Linked by the theme of ‘Innovation and inspiration’, alumni, staff and students heard from organisations ranging from well-known car manufacturer Aston Martin Lagonda to drinks start-up Crude, as well as Oxford Brookes academics and the CEO of Women on Boards UK.

With a record attendance of around 70 current students, recent graduates and alumni, as well as Business School staff, there was a real buzz throughout the day. Delegates savoured the opportunity to network and exchange ideas, inspiring new perspectives and opportunities, whilst enjoying the delicious cold brewed coffee kindly brought by Ben Lion as part of his presentation on Crude’s start-up journey.

The day kept everyone on their toes with a workshop, and was concluded in style with a dinner at our award-winning Brookes Restaurant.

You can find more information about the Summer School under the Summer School tab in the main menu - if you are a member, this includes speaker Bios, Slides and more pictures!

The Brookes MBA team was nominated for the Brookes People Awards in the category 'Confidence' - reflecting our confidence in our students and each other.

While the picture shows the 'core' team if you will, we see the MBA team as the entire group of people involved in management, administration and teaching - too many people to get together for a picture!
